anonymous gallery is proud to present Pryce Lee’s first solo exhibition, titled Single Shot, consisting of transformative works that speak of life, death and the human experience. This body of work provides the opportunity to be both viewer and viewed simultaneously, forcing objectivity and contemplation while becoming a part of the artist’s subject matter. Depicted through specific acts of gun violence, this work explores singular moments in life, that for better or worse, can alter existence.

Too often, through media outlets we learn of senseless killings but being so far removed from the actuality of it, we brush them aside and go about our daily affairs. Through the series of 15 “single shots” Lee not only brings the topic back to the forefront, but in this case, he does so by showing instances of absurdity within these serious situations. His meticulous use of materials and attention to detail are calculated with precision, all manipulated perfectly, while so much of the visual is presented as a variable left to chance; as with life. Additionally debuting his Ghost series, Lee explores the soul in a visible form. Where lifelike silhouette negatives produce an invisible presence enticing viewers, drawing them into the works as part of a séance.

Pryce Lee’s work, in its subtle and scarred beauty, reflects our attraction to danger and the randomness and fragility of life. He experiments with diverse concepts, techniques and media to create visually arresting individual works and large-scale installations that incite social commentary drawn from personal experience and actual events. Both a celebration of life and an acknowledgement of its chaos and unpredictability, Pryce Lee’s mirrored works reflect us – destroyed and whole.
