In the entryway of anonymous gallery, a wall is activated by a single artwork of an emerging artist or art collective. This presentation will run alongside the current exhibition schedule at the gallery, and will remain visible for one month.

This presentation aptly called first impression, will engage our audience and the general public with a single work on view. first impression, aims to share knowledge and insight of carefully considered artists outside of our gallery roster, while also focusing on a need for diverse representation of artists.

ANGIE PEI (b. 2001, San Diego, CA), is an artist based in Providence, RI. Her work experiments with translating sensory experience and feeling – interested in finding the layers between the real, the symbolic, and the imaginary. Within her paintings and sculptures, everyday forms collide and merge their typical affinities and associations. Through this emulsion of meanings, granules of transformed understanding and networks of thought begin to coagulate and rise to the surface, disorganizing presupposed meaning and perception.

Angie received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2024. Her work has been shown in exhibitions such as Pretty Secrets – PS: I<3U, DesignTO Festival, Mararamiro, Toronto, (2024); Jimmy Image and Jean Trombone, Ladybug Gallery, Providence, RI (2024); Rubrica, Gelman Gallery, Providence, RI; A Room Full of Chairs and Nowhere to Sit, Woods-Gerry Gallery, Providence, RI (2024); Pretty Secrets, Spring Studios, New York, NY (2023); Go Tither, Gelman Gallery, Providence, RI (2023); Water Seeks the Lowest Ground, Gelman Gallery.
