ARTEMIO – SELECTED WORK
Apoohcalypse Now. Video installation, 8'26", 2004. In this work, the artist appropriates and remixes footages from the Hollywood movie Apocalypse Now (Francis Ford Coppola, 1979) and Disney's Winnie the Pooh. Here, Pooh the Bear is playing the monologue of the main character of the film, Colonel Kurtz, which is originally done by Marlon Brando. The artist successfully combined the sweet, innocent and tender movements of Pooh and the story of solitude and horror of war told by Colonel. The contradiction between the image of Pooh and the story gives the dual senses of comic and reinforced horror.
